A missing child’s father has been charged with child abuse and sexual exploitation.
Manuela Gomez was found safe on April 22, after police said he was in the process of being taken to a police station to face charges.
Police said Gomez was with a relative, who was later arrested.
A second woman, identified as 27-year-old Anika Rodriguez, is accused of trying to take Gomez to a hotel, where she had sex with him and later gave him oral sex.
Rodriguez is being held without bail.
Marianne de La Cruz, a spokesperson for Manitoba police, confirmed Gomez’s arrest and said Gomez is expected to appear in court on May 16.
She said Gomez’s family has been contacted and police have no further information.
“As a matter of fact, our department is working closely with the Manitoba Attorney General’s office to determine the charges that will be brought against the alleged offenders,” de La Carriere said in an email.
Gomez has not yet entered a plea to the charges against him.
Investigators have been unable to determine whether Gomez’s case is connected to the case of a 19-year old boy who vanished last year in Winnipeg.
Authorities believe he was abducted in late April from his home in St. Vital, about 50 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, and found about four hours later, in a remote area in the city’s west.
The 19-yr-old boy’s body was found April 24.
An autopsy found Gomez died of “multiple blunt force trauma,” the Winnipeg Free Press reported.
He was last seen wearing a grey shirt, grey pants, black shoes and a blue sweater.
